Fenbendazole 222 is commonly prescribed to treat roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, and certain types of tapeworms. It is also effective against Giardia, a protozoal parasite that can cause diarrhea and digestive upset in dogs. Because of its broad spectrum, fenbendazole is often used as part of routine deworming schedules, especially in puppies or rescue dogs with unknown health histories. The medication works by interfering with the parasite’s ability to absorb nutrients, leading to its gradual death and removal from the dog’s system. Fenbendazole is usually given orally in tablet, paste, or liquid form over 3 to 5 consecutive days, depending on the condition being treated. Fenbendazole is considered safe for most dogs, including puppies over a certain age, when used at the correct dosage. It has a wide safety margin, meaning adverse reactions are uncommon. When side effects do occur, they are usually mild and may include temporary diarrhea, vomiting, or reduced appetite.
